How much does One know of Stephen King?

We all have seen movies based on Novels by Stephen King especially horror movies like The Shining directed by Stanley Kubrick starring Jack Nicholson, Dreamcatcher and The Mist but also movies like The Green Mile starring Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan and The Shawshank Redemption with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freemann. That's actually my wife's favorite. She even put a quote out of The Shawshank Redemption on her Facebook site:
"There are places in this world that aren't made out of stone. That there's something inside... that they can't get to, that they can't touch. That's yours ... Hope"
The sheer volume of films based on his novels is already breathtaking, even more so the amount of novels itself of course. The amount is probably best explained by his own quote:
"Read and write four to six hours a day. If you cannot find the time for that, you can't expect to become a good writer."
He sets out each day with a quota of 2000 words and will not stop writing until it is met. Quantity doesn't necessarily account for quality. However the list of awards is as impressive as the amount of novels:
"King has won 6 Bram Stoker awards, 6 Horror Guild awards, 5 Locus Awards[47], 3 World Fantasy Awards[48] (including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004), the 1996 O. Henry Award, a Hugo Award in 1982 for the non-fiction book Danse Macabre. He was given a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 by the Horror Writers' Association and a Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation in 2003 (see Critical Response, above).[49] In 2007, King received an award for lifetime achievement from the Canadian Literary Guild, the only non-Canadian to be bestowed this award (source Wikipedia)"
